We are currently running “Green Drinks” events, so come along to find out what Transition-related activities and groups are going on in Wimborne. Also look out for the “Stour & Avon” magazine; they often print updates & reports of our activities under “Ecowatch”, but sometimes don’t have space, so this website & the discussion forum are the first points of contact.
If you have spare garden produce, or garden space that you’d like someone to be working (in return for a share of the produce) please get in touch. We’d be delighted to put you in touch with someone local who’s looking for fruit, vegetables or space to produce their own food in. Also wood; if you’re having a tree or two cut down, we have a list of people who will come & remove the wood to use (eventually) in their woodburners.
We’d be glad to take spare jamjars (preferably with lids) Kilner jars, demijohns & other brewing or preserving equipment off your hands, as people are once more starting to use the abundant resources in our gardens & hedgerows. If you’re in need of equipment, drop us a line.
Support our local traders. Our town centre shops were hard-hit by the bridge closures last year, but they provide a brilliant alternative to the same-old shopping-mall traffic-jam parking-nightmare”retail experience” we’ve all had quite enough of. And they, like the market, provide a local outlet for our hard-pressed farmers; food you buy from them has a far smaller carbon footprint than things that have been transported up to a distribution centre, processed & returned, and will likely be fresher & better for you too. Every pound you spend in a locally-owned shop or on local produce stays here in our own community, underpinning our own local economy, rather than benefitting anonymous absentee shareholders. Also, look at what our local craftspeople have to offer, before spending your hard-earned cash on homewares or clothing just like everyone else’s, made thousands of miles away and transported here with energy that may not be so easily & cheaply available in future.
Reduce your energy use! More to follow…
I recently saw an article in the local newspaper saying that the group was linking people who need wood fuel with those that were supplying it. I have a wood burner and would be interested to find out more details.
Many thanks
Sue
Sue, we have only just received our first offer of wood, and we’ve had quite a few requests for it. I will let you know more when we actually have some to give away!
