20 people attended the meeting this evening, and most had not attended the first meeting which was held on a Thursday instead of a Tuesday. We watched the documentary “The Power of Community” which is about the Cuban “Special Period” where Cuba transitioned from oil-intensive agriculture to permaculture when the Soviet Union collapsed, and then spent an hour discussing the issues raised by the film both globally and locally.
This included the recent article in the Independent about the Internation Energy Agency’s stark warning about peak oil and price shocks being imminent, and which local community organisations would be interested in hearing about Transition Towns and becoming involved. Please post suggestions about actions we can take to promote Transition Town Wimborne on the discussion forum :-)
We agreed to hold another meeting in around one month’s time, perhaps at a local sports club, and show another film related to Peak Oil or Climate Change. Please also post suggestions on the Transition Town Wimborne discussion forum :-)
I would also like to bring attention to the “Who we are and what we do” document (PDF) published by the Transition Network, which is the parent organisation for the Transition Towns movement. This is a very short document that quickly explains the purpose and scope of Transition Towns.
